The information we collect
We collect your name, contact details, date of birth, address history, ID documents, information about your finances, assets and credit history, details of any guarantee or security you provide, and records of our communications with you. Financial crime checks may reveal information about criminal offences or sanctions.
We get this from you, from your business, broker or advisers, and from credit reference agencies, fraud prevention agencies, ID verification providers, and public sources such as Companies House, HM Land Registry and the electoral register.

Credit and fraud checks
We will search credit reference agencies about the business and, where relevant, its directors and guarantors. We may share information about the loan and how it is repaid with them, and they may share it with other lenders. These searches may leave a footprint on your credit file. The agencies explain how they use your data in their information notices: Experian (experian.co.uk/crain), Equifax (equifax.co.uk/crain) and TransUnion (transunion.co.uk/crain).
We also share information with fraud prevention agencies to prevent fraud and money laundering and verify identity. If fraud is detected, you could be refused finance.
Our lending decisions are made by people, supported by automated tools.
Who we share it with
We share personal data, where needed, with: the broker who introduced you; credit reference, fraud prevention and ID verification agencies; our funders and anyone we may transfer a loan to; solicitors, valuers and other professional advisers; receivers and debt recovery agents; IT and service providers acting on our instructions; and courts, HMRC, the police and other authorities where the law requires. We do not sell your data.
Some providers process data outside the UK. When they do, we make sure the transfer is lawful: either the UK Government has made adequacy regulations for that country, confirming its data protection standards are not materially lower than the UK’s, or we put appropriate safeguards in place, such as the ICO’s International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for details of the safeguards we use.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only as long as we need it: usually 12 years after a loan is repaid or a guarantee released, at least 5 years after the relationship ends for anti-money laundering records, and 12 months for applications that don’t proceed.
We protect your data with appropriate security measures and limit access to those who need it.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or transfer it. You can object to marketing at any time. You also have the right to complain to us about how we use your personal data (see section 9). Some rights only apply in certain circumstances. Contact us using the details above; there’s normally no fee and we’ll reply within one month.
